About Us
Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Preschool provides high-quality, Christ-centered early childhood education for 3–5-year-olds. Our mixed-age program nurtures each child’s faith, character, and love of learning through purposeful play, hands-on exploration, and intentional social-emotional learning. Children grow at their own pace while building curiosity, confidence, and a love for God’s creation.
We offer both full-day and half-day programs, with optional before- and after-school care for families who need extended hours.

Curriculums
While the center of our learning is play, we also have a few curriculums we use to teach core content. In addition to these curriculums, we also have daily center time when students are able to have free choice of activities.
One In Christ – Jesus Time
We have daily Jesus Time when we learn stories from the Bible. We focus on Old Testament stories in the first semester and New Testament stories in the second semester.
Handwriting Without Tears – Literacy
The Handwriting Without Tears program uses a tactile approach to letter writing. We use wood pieces in simple shapes to build letters, learn their names, and the letter sounds.
Second Step – Social Emotional
Second Step is an intentional social emotional curriculum that helps teach social skills, empathy, problem solving, and emotional regulation. We see students utilize strategies they learn throughout the day.
Heggerty – Phonemic Awareness
Heggerty is a fun and active way to help children learn pre-reading skills with rhymes, isolating sounds, and segmenting words.
Meet the Teachers
Erin Hoehner
Preschool Director/Teacher
Erin has served Chapel of the Cross Preschool since 2019. She was born and raised in St. Charles, Missouri, and earned her teaching degree from Concordia University Chicago. She is married to Pastor Hoehner and is blessed with three sons: Micah, Isaiah, and Asher. Erin is passionate about helping her students grow in their faith each day. In her spare time, Erin enjoys playing games, reading books, and doing crafts.
Mikayla Mueller
Preschool Teacher
Mikayla has served Chapel of the Cross Preschool since 2022. She is from Atchison, Kansas, and she completed her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education at Concordia University, Nebraska. She is married to a fellow Lutheran school teacher, Brett, and they share a passion for teaching children how they can share the love of Jesus with the world. In her spare time, Mikayla enjoys puzzling, reading novels, and cooking.
